Hauling out songerie

On Sunday, 16 August we took Songerie out of the sea with the help of a crane, a trailer that Jaco built to tow Songerie to the yacht club, a lot of friends, Jurgen and staff of Free Air Guest house, Sameul and Walter. Myself, Rochelle, dogs and kids had to wait for them to come out of the harbour before we could join the parade trough the streets of Walvis to the club.
We started with removing of 6 wheelbarrows of growth from the hull, sanding and paint new anti fouling. Walvisbay have the worst weather we ever experienced. We realised soon that we can not work in a order of first finish the hull and the outside then go to the inside. We had to make a list of bad weather- and good weather jobs. At a time it felt like everything is half done, but eventually we came to finish most jobs. If we want to leave by beginning November we will have to leave so unimportant things for the cruise or later. I celebrated my 40th bithday at the yacht club with most of our friends coming from the inland to join us. All had a loverly sundown cruise on a motor yacht from pelican tours (free of charge- thanks to Ingo) followed by a very succesful party. (picture of songerie with all the present in the saloon) By 25 October Songerie was at last back in the water. We then installed most of the electronics and waited for good weather to start the crossing
the pictures tell the story of the renovation.
