Golf of Cariaco

the black dot in the mid is the whale
We left TMO finger dock on the 27th of July for Laguna Grande in the Golf of Cariaco to do some of that overdue maintenance. At the entrance of the Golf we saw a pigmy whale. (3rd time we see one in this area) This time I tried to take a video as I previously failed to get a picture of the whale. Still not perfect, maybe next time! As usual we had wind in our face as we entered the Golf. We anchored at Laguna Grande for a couple of hours and at sunset when the wind calmed down we left for Medregal Village.

Medregal Village
It was great to see our friends Roland and Lorraine from s/v Pieces III and Swedish Kenneth and Monika from next door.
Jaco set to work on all the outside wood, sanding and varnishing, while I cleaned out everything inside and sewed a few new bags for toiletries etc.

We anchored for one night at Guacarapo and went with a porpuesto (local transport) to Cariaco for some fresh groceries. The anchorage was extremely quiet with only 3 other boats.

Ons the 6th of August we weighed anchor and left for Laguna Grande where we stayed 2 days. We anchored around the corner from the fishing village and bought 2kg fresh fish, calamari and oysters for 40Bs (N$38)

This lagoon is breathtakingly beautiful and tranquil . According to the Doyle Guide it must rate high among the Caribbean’s hidden treasures and only a few people stop by. The landscape reminds us to Damaraland in the Namibian desert. An endless variety of glowing red rocky hills, small islands with green mangroves ending in the lagoon.
