Cayo Heradura, Isla Tortuga

As in politics it seems the majority is not always right, was the case of leaving for Tortuga that day! The sea was still very rough and winds strong and although we made good time it was an unending roller coaster ride that left both Anita and James incapitated. The full spectrum motion sickness pills they took were not strong enough.
To top it all we had no luck with fishing and we needed extra strong sundowners when we arrived in Cayo Heradura.

The next day we got some drift wood and one big tree to build the shack on the beach.
The water was still murky from the big seas and we resorted to the very friendly fishermen for the evening’s food. We got some goat fish that fried on the BBQ, was excellent for Christmas meal. We put Christmas lights (courtesy Anita) around the bimini and in the rigging and Songerie looked very festive.
Anita surprised us with a bag full of Christmas presents.

The next few days the swell got less and the water cleaner and I took James for his first spear fishing expedition. He got two fish the first time out, not bad for beginner and I BBQ it the same day.
We had glorious days at the beach, swimming, snorkelling, making big fires and had beautiful sundowners.

James and I twice went trolling for fish on Songerie with-out luck.
We left for Palanquinos to look for Conch and for a bit of spear fishing.
We all had a good day snorkelling, James was getting better quickly and shot two bonito and I got some pargo and barracuda. We tried our best but the visibility was not good enough to find conch.

Very sad sight.
We left the next day for Punta Delgada, planning to head for Mochima for New Years Eve. The wind was picking up again and since the sail back to Mochima is tight to the wind we decided to stay put.
There we saw a sailboat that got stranded on the rocks three days ago. James and me walked there to see if we could salvage anything.
