Bahia de las Aquillas

 Anchor spot N   W    , 5 meter in sand
The Bahia is a big bay (6 miles long) so is difficult to decide where to anchor.

lion fish
The wind was southerly so we anchored in the southern area which gives better protection.
On the way in we saw some coral clusters and the next two days we dived on them and found some good fish. I shot a Lion fish and we had a delicious meal of it that night.
The Lion fish, for those that do not know, is a beautiful reddish fish with elaborate long fins . The problem is it is not native to the Caribbean Sea and destroys fish population as it eats the fish eggs and has no natural predators to keep it in check. It has been declared” persona non grata” and now the human is the only predator.

bit too big barracuda to eat
The next day I shot a beautiful 7kg Mutton Snapper and a pan size one as well.
We enjoyed the fish on the BBQ and in the pan and had enough left over for 1 kg of fish cakes . This was perfect for the more than 24H sail to Ile a Vache.

The last day we spend on the beach on the north side, paradise with no people around.
This place turned out to be our favourite of the Dominican Republic anchorages.
The next morning we left for the 120 mile  west: Ile a Vache, Haiti.
