Guatemala City

We took a 5 hour bus leaving at 3am Monday morning to Guatemala City. Upon arrival we were told all Government offices will be closed on Monday, thus we left for Antigua for a day/night visit to return the following day.

Guatemala City ( La Nueva Guatemala de la AsunciĆ³n; locally known as Guatemala or Guate), is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Guatemala and Central America. (2002 census - 2.3 million. However, it has grown in excessive amounts throughout recent years.)
Within the confines of modern Guatemala City is the ancient Maya city of Kaminaljuyu. Kaminaljuyu was first occupied between 1200 and 1000 BC and the city continued to be inhabited for about 2000 years before it was abandoned in the Late Classic Period of Mesoamerican chronology (600–900 AD). It is one of America's most notable archaeological sites. The center of Kaminaljuyu was located a short distance from the oldest part of Guatemala City.

Hotel Spring close to the bus stop and walking mall.
We returned a couple of times to Guatemala city in order to get our Visas and stayed in Hotel Spring. It is walking distance from the bus stop and safe to walk at night to the nearby mall and restaurants. The rooms are spacious and from N$160 to N$180 for a double room!
