Next was a day trip was to Sossusvlei, spectacular area of the highest dunes in the world.

We left early morning to catch the dramatic kaleidoscope of colours at sunrise and also to climb the dunes before it gets too hot by 10 o’clock.

Luckily the two of us was early enough to catch the dead-valley before the crowds of tourist arrived by 9am.

This Shovel-Snouted Lizard, endemic to the Namib, also known as the sand diving lizard. When the sand gets very hot, this lizard can be found dancing by holding 2 feet in the air at a time and then alternating its feet.
