Curacao June/July 2015

The ABC islands north of Venezuela. To the right of Bonaire are the 2 Aves Islands and then Los Roques further to the right.

The Arawak was the original inhabitants of Curaçao. Their ancestors had migrated to the island from South America.
One explanation for the origin of the name Curaçao is that it is derived from the Portuguese word for heart (coração), referring to the island as a centre in trade. Spanish traders kept the name.
The most widely spoken language is Papiamentu, a Portuguese creole.

The floating bridge, The Queen Emma Bridge, a 168 metres (551 ft) long pontoon bridge, connects pedestrians between the Punda and Otrobanda districts. This swings open to allow the passage of ships to and from the port.

Jaco stayed on board at  anchor in  Spanish Waters, a huge inland lagoon. The regular bus service to Willemstad is cheap, but very infrequent. The daily free bus to the Vreugdenhill supermarket could be used to get to all the chandlers. I was doing maintenance in very windy conditions and trying to potty-train Coco and Canela.
Achieved not perfect results on both counts!

anchorage in Spanish water.
There is a lot of cruisers at anchor but the organised pot-luck BBQ's and cruisers meetings was badly attended.
perfect sunset at Klein Curacao.

Soon after Christelle came back from Namibia, there was a break in the strong winds and we could motorsail to Klein Curacao and then on to Bonaire.
