Dodging the bullets (and coast guard) on Colombian coast. December 2015

Hee Haah!! Landing a beautiful 15kg tuna at Puento Galinas, Colombian coast.
At anchor at Bahia Honda.
We left Los Monjes together with Sailboats Sparrow and Anna Laura early morning to make Punta Galinhas by midday before the strong winds pick up by afternoon.
We were sailing under headsail to make it easier to bring in a big fish. This proofed to be good choice as we hooked and successfully landed a 15 kg Tuna! Just past Punta Galinhas we entered Bahia Honda. We heard from other sailors later that there are good protection, but we obviously did not anchored at the right spot, for it was quite dangerous when we upped anchor.

Anna Laura under full sail in about 3m swell and heavy winds at the notorious windy Cabo de la Vela!

Calm anchorage at Cabo de la Vela.
After a days rest we set sail early morning for notorious windy/high seas , Cabo De la Vela. And that is exactly what we got! 3 to 4 m swell, a thunderstorm and lots of wind! At sunset we came "surfing" past the point with a crowd of onlookers at the view point on the mountain. To Christelle's relief the anchorage is very protected and calm 100%better than what we found at Honda.
Fishermen at Cabo de la Vela
Mahi-Mahi catch close to Santa Marta. (once again a bit too alive)
We motor sailed overnight past Santa Martha to Rodadero. At the 5 Bays, we hooked a good size Mahi-mahi.
This anchorage is in front of a packed, loud party beach of a huge high rise city! No good nights rest here.

Same Mahi-Mahi, little bit later.
Mmm... delicious Carpaccio.
dodgy anchorage at Rodadero.
Early morning we set sail to Hermosa, passing the mouth of the infamous Magdalena river that is known to create big standing waves with a lot of debris to look out for. We passed 5 NM from the mouth and only found a few islands of debris.
Horse eye jack catch on the way to Hermossa.
Doggies playing on the coach roof at sunset at Hermossa.
Tintipan.
time to up anchor and head for San Blas!!
From here we sailed on to Rosario for one night, then Tintipan, where we waited another 3 days for the swell to subside for the last overnight sail to San Blas.
On our arrival at San Blas we heard many stories about pirates and the coast guard of Colombia. We were very happy to depart without encountering anyone!
