Hanging loose in Belize, July 2016

Christelle's cobia catch on the way to Virginia's Cay.

We were postponing heading up the hurricane hole, Rio Dulce. The next full moon and spring high tide is around 20 July, this makes for best time crossing the sand bar at the entrance of the Dulce.

When strong winds and thunderstorms were coming our way, we tugged in as close as possible to "Little blue water cay" in a protected but quite deep (8 to 12 m) lagoon.

exploring the Cay.

Jaco rowing to Songerie at Little blue water Cay.
Local fishing boat.

Very pretty and protected anchorage at Garbutt Cay, 8 NM east from Dangriga, makes clearing out from Immigration and Customs easier. (Costing us U$50, for what, we still do not know!)

Rum-punch with Stephan and Verena

Coco and Canela (and us) are welcome on a little island, "Virginia's Cay" where our new friends, Verena and Stephan the "pet-sitters"/artists/sailors are taking care of a pig and this cay. Diving around the boat, BBQ's on the beach, sun-downers and excellent conversation makes this the best spot in Belize for hanging loose!

(Only 2 weeks after we left, Hurricane Earl made landfall on August 4, just south of Belize city... extremely close to this cay and destroyed the palapa, some of the land and beach!)
