Land ahoy! Belize, June 2016

Eye-balling between the reefs.

Monday, 13 June, in the late afternoon we dropped the free mooring at West End and set sail for Turneffe, Belize. Under strong winds and reefed sails on a beam-reach tack we made good speed. In the early morning hours the wind died down and we motor sailed the last few hours.
After the traditional anchor-set rum, there were enough daylight hours left for a quick swim and inspection over the reef.

Smooth sailing protected by the barrier reef.

The following day we sailed on to Tabacco Cay for a one night stop, eye-balling at the entrance of the barrier reef through the Tabacco gap. All along collecting information for the family visit soon.
Then on to Placencia where we checked in with Immigration and Customs.
Just before entering the anchorage we caught our first Cobia. This shark look alike fish is as delicious as a tuna!
Cobia caught on the cuban-reel.

After heavy rains, we collected enough water in the dinghy for mom and dogs to enjoy a bath!
