The atlantic crossing

Monday, 16 November we pulled up anchor and started the Atlantic crossing. We hoped to skip st.Helena island, because the dogs are not welcome there and we had friends waiting for us in Brazil. We any way steered in the direction of the island incase we need something. The first 3 days were confused sea and wind, sometimes no wind some times very strong and rolling high swell. Then we reached the trade winds of mostly consistant 10 to 15 knots wind from the back. On the 3rd day Muddy started to look sick and stopped eating. I had a good selection of medicine. We tried everything and motion sickness, but nothing was working. We had to force feed him with a seringe 3 times a day. We had to go to st.Helena for help. On 28 November we reached st. Helena island. (same time as a cruise ship with 400 tourist onboard) We mentioned a sick dog when we radioed to enter the bay. As soon as we touched land everybody new the 2 of us were the 2 from the yacht, not the cruise ship(?) and we had a sick dog onboard. Everybody was trying to reach the vet to help us and everybody helped us to book in at customs, port control and imigration!!! We enjoyed a ice cold beer at the Consulat hotel . The owner saw my laundrybag (to do later by hand ) and offered to do the laundry for free and on top of that mentioned that I am welcome to take a bath with some radox bathoil at the Hotel! It turned out that there were no vets on the island, but they had some trainees that could come to the boat. After phoning dr. Beggs back home we got treatment from the trainees for a stomach ulcer and infection. With two days rest, we left this Friendly and Helpful island on the 30th for the last strech to Salvador.
