Rio de Janeiro
60 nm southwest of Buzios
Monday, 22nd of February we left for Rio.
We had a pleasant sail from Buzios down to Cabo Frio. This are is well known for good fishing, but we caught nothing. Once around Cabo Frio we were heading west to Guanabarabay where Rio and Niteroi is situated. We were visited twice by big groups of Spotted and Common Bottlenose Dolphins. Closer to Rio were a lot of fishing boats, but all with proper navigation lights.
We arrived very early at Rio and Marina do Gloria. It was 42 degrees without any breeze and 100% humidity at midday while we were running around the city checking in at port control and trying to extend our visa. Marina do Gloria is a total rip-off, we paid 150Real = N$700 for one night. No internet and bad incorrect information at reception.
We left the next day in search of another marina. At Niteroi we found the old Navy Club: Charitas. Cost is about 30 Real per day including water, electricity, wi-fi connection and very friendly service with Suzy that speaks English with excellent information. She gave us the advice to extend our Visa in Niteroi. We end up staying 8 days of which 5 was raining. Jaco finished the stainless steel ladder which will enable ma Chrija to get in our boat.
