Cabadelo/ Jacare
From Maceio to Cabadelo was “plain sailing” (at last). The first day we had to run the engine for 12 hours to make headway. The wind was very light and on a tight reach. (Almost from the front.) The second day the wind was a little bit stronger and on the beam. (More from the side.) We could sail a little bit faster with no rolling…..seems like heaven after what we experienced the past month! We entered the Paraiba River on 21 June at 7 am with a little bit of rain that blew over us. Luckily we arrived after low tide and had the current with us and no swell going in. We passed Cabadelo and continued to Jacare.
We were delighted to see a few other foreign yachts, 2 German boats, an Austrian, and American in front of yacht club “Jacare village”. It has been a long time since we had other fellow-sailor company. This club belongs to a Frenchman, Philippe, whom charges 95Reas (N$400)/week for anchorage and use of wi-fi and showers. Tad expensive for us, but convenient. We dropped anchor next to an American S/V “Sourdough”. Skipper Don soon came over soon to say hi and gave a few tips of where to find a cold beer, cheap meal and watch the world cup soccer. He recently arrived from our home port Walvisbay, has been sailing for the last 16 years and is on his way home.
First picture is our arrival on the chart-plotter, one can see the peninsula and another boat on our track.
2nd picture is Jacare next to the river with Joao Pessoa high-rise buildings in the background.
3rd is Songerie on anchorage next to Jacare village marina
