Jacare
Jacare is a very small village with one cobble stone street, a small shop, church, bar with big screen TV and a self-help restaurant that charges one 6Reas per person per plate of food. There are on the beach front a tourist part with a few “fancy” restaurants, curio shops and a whole square of tapioca “bars”, but we have never seen the tapioca bars open. Tapioca is a “pancake” made of maniorc flour. Very easy to make once you have the right flour. I tried 6 different maniorc flours before I found the right one! (I will soon publish a page on our favorite food & recipes of Brazil)
The Brazilians are fanatic fans of the national soccer team, all over Brazil the streets were decorated with yellow and green buntings for the world cup soccer.
When there is ANY kind of celebration they do this with abundance of alcohol, distorting loud music and fire crackers. From religious festivals to New Years celebrations to soccer! Jacare is no different to this; they just add on top of it all each one trying to make a bigger fire in the street, than his neighbour. First picture show a street scene with typical overhead buntings, and a woodpile ready for tonight’s celebration.
We decided to stay here until the end of the world cup soccer. We can replace the wood of our cockpit and try to order a new belt for the auto pilot. (Which turned out far too expensive, will make do without it until we can get it from Namibia)
The 10 of us yachties watched most of the games in Francisco’s bar.
2nd picture is our favorite bar tender Francisco; last pictures are the yaghties watching Spain beating Germany and a full moon rising over Jacare.
