Palulu Camp site

We decided to stay a bit longer in Suriname than our original plans. The main reasons being its cheap here and there are still to many hurricanes in the Carib. (Not that we plan to go to hurricane area, but it affects the weather everywhere.) Sophie and Ed gave us the excellent tip about Palulu jungle. This is a piece of Eden in Suriname, only 50km from Domburg. We saddled our bicycles up, dogs on the back and head of early morning on the 5th of October. We reached Zanderij. at 11am, but stop to have lunch & beer before we cycled the last 5 km on thick sand to Palulu. Paul welcomed us on arrival and showed us around. He is the father of Iris , the co-owner of the site. She is originally from Germany, married a tour guide from Suriname and now lives here. Apart from the scenery, we found the tranquility and privacy wonderful. The whole campsite is booked only for us. We pitched our tent on the river bed, almost in the river. The dogs were beyond themselves to run free again and swim in the cola waters of the river. The first night we made a big camp fire for the “braaivleis” like we used to in Namibia (not from acacia and beef though). We relaxed in and next to the river the second morning. Just after lunch two Ameri-indian guides took us on a small walking trip in the jungle. That evening we enjoyed a memorable supper with Paul. He cooked sauerkraut, smoked sausage and dumpling-bread. (a family secret recipe) This was one of the best meals we had in ages!
