Isla Tortuga is a low and dry island with sensational beaches, brilliant water colours, good snorkelling and various anchorages. Cayo Herradura (horseshoe cay) is the favourite anchorage. It is a mile long island made up of fine white coral sand. There is a fishing camp at the north side. Due to the short time we had with our family we visited only the one anchorage. We snorkelled every morning and made “braais” every afternoon on our own “private” beach. Jaco speare fished a few red snappers and a 1.5kg Cray fish. He prepared the most delicious, mouth watering cold smoked snapper for a starter. (Even my dad whom is a carnivore loved it)
