On the 30
th all of us “trekked” to
Etosha Heights (
NOT ETOSHA MOUNTAIN LODGE... SORRY, FOR THE MISTAKE) where Tana and Andre work. They accommodated the family at one of the camps, Safarihoek, (once again luxurious thatch roof bungalows overlooking a water hole) for the New Years celebration. We were looking forward to the smell of Mopanie (or Camel thorn) wood burning each evening at the camp fire.

"das Sudwesterlied" |
Since Jaco and dad are such experienced singers, my sisters encouraged our men to sing the “Sudwesterlied”. After thorough warming-up of their vocals, they sang an extended version.
The rain started a few days before our arrival. It can be very difficult to find game with all the water in the field, but we were very happy to see a couple of Sabel during one of the game drives.
It has been many years since I have seen a “rain spider”, not sure if it has anything to do with “La Niña”? This year we found them all over the country.
