Safariehoek

On the 30th all of us “trekked” to Etosha Heights (NOT ETOSHA MOUNTAIN LODGE... SORRY, FOR THE MISTAKE) where Tana and Andre work. They accommodated the family at one of the camps, Safarihoek, (once again luxurious thatch roof bungalows overlooking a water hole) for the New Years celebration. We were looking forward to the smell of Mopanie (or Camel thorn) wood burning each evening at the camp fire.

"das Sudwesterlied"
Since Jaco and dad are such experienced singers, my sisters encouraged our men to sing the “Sudwesterlied”.  After thorough warming-up of their vocals, they sang an extended version.

The rain started a few days before our arrival. It can be very difficult to find game with all the water in the field, but we were very happy to see a couple of Sabel during one of the game drives.
It has been many years since I have seen a “rain spider”, not sure if it has anything to do with “La Niña”? This year we found them all over the country.
