Cayo Francisquis
N 11 57,366’ W66 39,009’ 6m deep sand bottom
Cayo Francisquis is quite close to the main island El Gran Roque (where the coast guard hovers) but it looked so good on photos that we decided to risk it.
It is truly beautiful with a bar/restaurant on one beach where they set up tourist with umbrella, chairs and cool box with ice and beverages. Our beach was almost deserted with a thatched shade which we used for our visits. A lot of kite surfing was going on, steady 15-20 knt wind and flat seas makes it easy to learn the ropes here.
We managed to hail a passing pirogue to take us to the town on El Gran Roque.
The small but very busy airport is close to the landing jetty and your reflex is to duck when the planes came in at masthead height.
The town spans only a few sandy streets but has a lot of very nicely decorated posadas (small guest house).Hicham the architect was quite impressed with the stylish furniture and trimmings. We did some shopping and liming (caribbean for “chewing the fat”),
before returning to our boats.
The next day we weighed anchor and left for Noronsquis.
