Puerto la Cruz
We were planning a month of peace and quiet with some much needed maintenance in the golf of Cariaco when the shit hits the fan. My sister Mattie and husband Hennie decided that now or never, this is the best time to visit us, for 18 days!
A week later, after frantic organizing of plane tickets and more, Mattie took a long walk on our short pier, dumping both brand-new cell phones and the camera into the sea.
Luckily we have a spare camera and cell phones are of no use on the islands.

We mentioned to bring little as possible luggage, this is the tropics, one does not need much and there is not a lot of free space on Songerie. We were speechless when they appeared at the airport with one huge suitcase, 2 smaller ones, hand luggage and a big guitar. Were they expecting a cruise on a Super Yacht in the Bahamas ? (Mattie explained the bags were full of our wish list) We got “beskuit”, beef “biltong”, two new fan belts for the main engine, fish lures, Jameson and Amarula. The security guys at Frankfurt got the peanut butter and Oxo! Luckily we are renting a small store room for 3 months
The next morning we took the dingy to Plaza Mayor via the El Morro development, a beautiful water townhouse complex. On the way back the outboard gave some problems and it started raining. While hiding under one of the bridges we started practicing “Das Sudwesterlied”, just so we are ready if we need to sing….
Early next morning was off to the big market, always a bit of a shock for first timers as the noise, colour and smell attack is a bit too much. Mattie and Hennie handled it fine.
We stocked up good for the trip and took a typical taxi back to the marina.
The net baskets under the bimini were heavy with mangoes, apples, papayas, grinadillas, pineapples, avocadoes and limes. Under the solar panel was hanging a big green banana bunch.

.We were ready… all we needed was a bid of meat and wine!We got the meat from “La Cava” and would stop at Porlamar for the duty free wine.
