Los Nevados

Tony fits 6 people and luggage and speakers inside!
Smooth talking Andy of Extreme Adventures sold us the trip to Los Nevados and showed us the brand new Toyota Land cruiser station wagon that will take us up the Andes. The next morning the four of us, the guide Jared (aka Tom Cruise) and the driver Snot crammed into an old short wheelbase Toyota SUV with speaker boxes everywhere and no space left for passengers! Tony convinced us that this is the better option even if Jared had to sit on the gearshift (almost).

Another mudslide
Los Nevados is a forgotten Andean town at the end of a nerve wrecking 5-6hrs 4X4 drive. Recent heavy rains destroyed part of the already badly maintained road and at times we thought it will be better to turn back, but Snot kept on going and we managed to get to the charming mountain village nestled at 2700m above sea level: Los Nevados.

Los Nevados town square
We all went for a short hike down to a river and on the way up realised we are badly unfit. We strolled around town, met the beautiful radio broadcaster in her studio and had a beer at the top of the main road.

We stayed one night at Posada Jerez with breathtaking views over the valley, homely atmosphere and excellent local meals.
