The heart of the Tabaco industry is in Vinales and has
special scenery to boot and as we discovered…perfect for cycling!
Casa particular Mari recommended a friend in Vinales and
so we were met by Leonel on a bike at
the bus stop in Vinales. He insisted we must eat something although we were not
hungry and we settled for a small chicken soup with-out checking the price
first.
We had an interesting evening with Leonel, a primary
school teacher and true communist. Whenever
he was talking of “my fatherland” or the Brothers Castro he had his hand on his
heart… but when he wrote the bill ( U$ 8 for a small soup) he was a true
capitalist!

We met Benito, a retired barber at a Tabaco farm and he

cigar which we smoked on the spot.
