Anchorage at Isla Palmeras

Ingredients for a delicious meal!
The “Leeward Bird Island” is more photogenic than Barlovento, with white sand beaches and palm trees. Also home to Venezuelan Coastguard that will check your documents and tell you how long you should stay.

Beggars Bouillabaisse
First stop was south of Isla Palmeras where we found a small reef with a lot of good fish and Phil lobster.

We got enough for a BBQ and moved to Isla Saki Saki.
Enough for a few days!

Fare well beach "braai"
While we were collecting firewood another sailboat came from direction Bonaire and we invited them to the BBQ and so we met Russell and Nataliya of “Be as you are”
Chaser has decided to leave for Bonaire a lot sooner than we expected and this was a kind of farewell party with lots of fun and rum….
The next morning “Chaser” left for Bonaire and “Be as you are” for Los Roques.

fresh oysters at Mangrove bay.
Some strong winds were forecasted and we moved to Mangrove Bay that is well protected.
There is a minute beach at Mangrove Bay and it was here that we spend our 18th wedding anniversary.
We collected some oysters and conch, got that on the coals and cracked open Chilean Champagne…. Very nice.

German yacht that went on the rocks a few months ago.
The weather improved and we moved to Curricai Island for the next few days. A truly beautiful spot with powder white beach, palm trees and turquoise water.  A few metres astern are a steep drop-off with excellent diving.

We enjoyed a BBQ on the beach under the full moon.

We saw with the help of Phil and Chris Parker a day of less wind to make it back to Barlovento.
