Cheers oom Hentie vir die wyn! |
Halfway to Cayo Largo we anchored for a night at the tranquil Cabeza del Este. Crumbed Conch and an excellent SA wine, Momberg, were on the menu on the 1st of May when we celebrated 23 years since we met.
Another cold front was heading our way. Provisioning for this, Jaco spearfished at Isla Ballanetos a huge hogfish and record size cero before we took refuge at Cayo Largo anchorage.

Green flash? Yehh... depends on the rum. |

Rosario lobster. |
Jaco successfully smoked fish on-board Songerie for the first time, while waiting for our buddy boats to arrive at Rosario west.
After a "heated discussion" between Nomad and the fly-fishermen about spearfishing, we all weighed anchor and sailed further west to Cayo Avalos.
There are stunning snorkeling and diving sites around these reefs and coral-heads.

Every evening we had potlucks on-board one of the boats. One evening each boat cooked their favourite recipe of lobsters for a sun-downer on the beach.
On the way back to Cienfuegos we passed Rosario East and decided to stop for one night. (This can be a roly anchorage in strong winds.) The anchor has not even set yet when Nate and Jaco left in the dingy heading for the bank Nate noticed before. Nomad's fridge was full, but Jaco clearly thought we still have space... he got another trofee, a 15kg Cubera snapper.
This called for a fish smoke on the beach. With Ausie/Brazilian boat, Sunflower, joining in, it turned to sun-downer and almost sun-riser!

The Rosario Monster! |
Time flies when you're having fun... sadly we have to say "till we meet again" to Nomad and Kantala. Every one sailing in different directions! Us going to Rio Dulce for hurricane season, Nomad back to Panama and Kantala on to Canada!
Thank you, we shared a embarrassment of good laughs, great food, rum and cigars!
