Rio Dulce, Casa Gysa, and Guatemala City August 2016

The first couple of days we stayed at anchored in front of Mar Marine, checking out a few more possibilities for keeping our boat and the dogs.

The Castillo de San Felipe, a Spanish colonial fort at the entrance to Lake Izabal, made for a lovely setting for Jaco's birthday. His breakfast included a Chilean sparkling wine, scones and exotic tropical fruits, then followed with a "tappa" BBQ which included extremely tough Guatemalan beef!
Christelle baked again one of her famous "flops"... a cake that taste much better than it looks!

We chosed Casa Gysa, a small French marina inside a hidden lagoon, for leaving Coco, Canela and Songerie for 2 months.
There is not a big space for Canela to run at full speed, but Gilbert, Yeye and their daughter are very friendly and a hospitable family, always trying to please the cruisers (and their pets). Gilbert provides a large working area which we occupied  soon after docking Songerie, building a bigger, waterproof bemini/roof with water catching fittings to replace the old sambrela bemini.

Odd looking lizard in the "forest" surrounding the marina.

Jaco re-enforced  and adapted the old stainless steel frame to fit the new bigger roof.

Selection of Tortillas!

Time has come to fly back home for a couple of months. We spend a weekend in Guatemala City before the flight, buying summer clothes and some gifts (coffee). (We needed something else than wet-suits or swimming-costumes to wear and spend hours in the 2nd-hand clothes shops.)
It is very difficult to resist all the beautiful, bright colourful craft an delicious food at the Mercado Central.

A tradition breakfast including fried Plantain, Chile rolenos, sour cream and tortillas.
